AUSNZ 2013 VTES Championship Report

Here's my write up for AUSNZ 2013 VTES Championship that happened on October 5th in Sydney.

15 players (3 tables of 5)

I decided to take my Kiasyd bleed deck again as I’m quite comfortable with it and it’s proven itself in many games.  It’s had a couple of modifications since I played it in Melbourne, which bring it up to version 6.

Round 1

Tony (weenie ani / aus wall) > Simon (Baali vote / bleed) > Pete (Carna toolbox) > Me (Kiasyd bleed) > Craig (Toreador crazy bleed of some kind)

Decent crypt and library draw, I was happy.  My predator decides to tool up most of the game, leaving me to bleed hard into my prey.  Most of the bleeds land with only the odd one or two being flicked which makes mincemeat out of Craig.  The pressure now gets put on Tony but he manages to flick a bleed of 4 at 1 stealth to Simon which ousts him, not so good.  Pete decides to start taking some actions towards me now and I’m able to block some and bounce a bleed to Tony.  Tony’s starts attacking Pete with his “death from a thousand paper cuts” strategy.  I managed to get my 3 star vamps out so I was feeling quite confident of being able to out Tony and have a good shot at Pete.

Tony ends up going down and it does indeed end up being a faceoff with Pete.  Pete blocks one of my bleeds with Carna who happens to have an Ivory Bow and puts The Arcadian into torpor.  Not to worry, as I was then able to bleed him out with Omme.

The most helpful card on this table was the Antediluvian Awakening I played in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Me 1GW 4VP, Tony 1VP

Round 2
Jim (Nos Princes breed/boon) > Nick (Stani and friends vote) > Simon (Baali vote / bleed) > Steve (Synesios vote) > Me (Kiasyd bleed)

I was surrounded by vote decks.  Votes as far as the eye could see.  Thankfully Omme Enberbenight was in my opening crypt giving me 3 votes and lock in the Prisci sub-referendum, which amounted to cancelling out my prey’s votes and not much else.

Steve was being pressured by Simon but still managed to get the odd vote through and a bleed or two.  I took the tiny window I had to oust Jim but missed him by 1 pool.  On Jim’s next turn he managed to bloat back out to about 9 pool.

There was a lot of vote talk on this table and it was great to see everyone calm and level headed.  I spent a turn or two on 4 pool and Steve had a chance to oust me as time was running out but he didn't draw into what he needed.  The table timed out and we all got 0.5 VP.

Round 3

Steve (Synesios vote) > Dave > James Bonham (!Tremere wall featuring Una rush) > Tony (weenie ani / aus wall) > Me (Kiasyd bleed)

My turn to have a crack at Steve this round and I had to go about it rather quickly as I had Tony’s weenie ani/aus on my back and I thought Steve would try and back-oust me.

The details of this game are a bit hazy for me and I remember trying not to get too involved in the politics of the game.  I bleed hard into Steve as much as I could for at least 2 or 3 as a base and boosting it if I could, not fearing the Archon.  Eventually I ousted Steve but I soon fell to Tony who just kept chipping away at me with little bleeds or 1 and 2 with his many minions.

Chris 1VP, Tony ??

Final Round

Me (Kiasyd bleed) > Tony (weenie ani/aus wall) > Simon (Baali Vote) > Will (Ventrue Lawfirm) > Pete (Carna toolbox)

So I made it to the final table in 1st seed with 1GW 5.5VP achieving the goal I set for myself, make the final table.  I sought some advice from Jim about where I should sit and in the end I chose to sit as Pete’s prey and Tony’s predator.  In hindsight I may have been better off being Tony’s prey and Simon’s predator, but if my library draw was the same, the outcome would have been identical for me.  I chose to sit between Pete and Tony because I knew Pete would tool up and give me about 5-6 rounds of peace with maybe 1 or 2 bleeds to me.  Also since Tony was packing intercept it would help cycle through the stealth in my deck (Ha!).

The game starts and it goes as I had planned, and my opening hand looks alright as I have a bit of everything, even a Pentex.  I managed to get my 3 main vampires out and things are still looking okay but I'm not drawing into much stealth at all and I end up getting into combat with Tony way too much.

The next thing to happen is probably one of the craziest things I’ve seen happen in a game.  Simon bleeds Will for 3.  Will flicks it to Pete.  Pete flicks it to me.  I flick it to Tony.  Tony flicks it back to me.  I flick it back to Tony.  Tony flicks it back to me.  6 flicks later it stays with me and I’m bleed for 3.  I see it as an even up, as one of my bleeds of 4 landed on Simon earlier in the game, however during this crazy flick-a-thon I'm trying to cycle into more flick but instead I draw into 4 of the 6 Wakes in my deck, all sitting on top of each other!  How the heck that happened I have no idea.

Soon after I made my final mistake of the game, which cost me possibly an oust.  During Tony’s Master phase he backwards Pentexs one of my 3 vampires.  On my next turn I try to remove the Pentex but since I’m having a terrible time drawing anything useful from my deck like stealth, I'm blocked.  On Pete’s next turn I get ousted.  However, if I had not been so unsettled by my bad crypt draw and just the pressure of the whole game, I would have realised I could Pentex forward with the Pentex that was still in my hand and contest it with my prey.  I can only assume Tony Pentexed me because he was running out of flick or intercept.

The next to fall was Will and then Pete came for Tony and got him.  With about 5mins to go Pete managed to lunge enough to oust Simon to give him the Championship.  Well done Pete.

Final Thoughts

I played something like 11 games of VTES in 3 days.  That's about the same number of games I get to play in a year in Townsville.  I learnt a LOT of new things about deck types and synergies I’d never thought of.  Thanks to Steve, Simon, Jon for the extra games, DC Comics: Deck Building Game is awesome, and the hilarity that was Cards Against Humanity, but most of all for being great guys to hang out with.

Thanks to Andrew Chirgwin for organising the venue and running the Championships and the Bruce Cup on Monday, and to Steve for running the LCQ. Thanks again to Steve and Andrew for the prize support across the whole weekend. Lastly, thanks to everyone who showed up and made it a successful event!

Sealed Starter Tournament

It'd been more than 12 months since we'd tried a sealed deck competition and it was also a good excuse to introduce some new cards into people's collections.

We had 1 of each starter deck from Legacies of Blood (Akunanse, Ishtarri, Osebo & Guruhi) and the Followers of Set starter from Lords of the Night.  To go with these starters were 6 boosters each, Ebony Kingdom boosters for the LoB starters and Lords of the Night boosters for the Followers of Set starter.

Once the starter decks and boosters were assigned randomly we had 90mins to construct a deck.  We decided to allow 5mins between games to adjust decks.  What was to follow was 3 games (2hr time limit) with the winner being the person with the most game wins (GW) and/or victory points (VP).

Who ended up with what:
Chris - Guruhi
Mark - Followers of Set
Adam - Ishtarri
Dave - Akunanse
Ben - Osebo

Game 1: Chris > Mark > Adam > Dave > Ben >
It was a slow start as we all had to figure out our strategies for our newly created decks.  I started and since my deck relied on votes I had to influence the only vampire in my uncontrolled region that had a title, Ugadja.  A 10 capacity so I took a few cheap bleeds from Ben on turns 2 and 3.  Luckily they were only for 1 and 2.  Mark was lucky and managed to get a couple smaller Followers of Set out and put Form of Corruption into play.  Adam was also a slow starter but was on the back foot from the get-go due to having a stealth bleed predator. Dave had a fairly easy start since Adam was preoccupied with staying alive, and was able to influence out a couple of minions without too much trouble.  As Dave's deck was probably the closest thing to a combat deck he was keeping Ben in check.  Ben's deck worked as a wall-ish type deck with small amounts of intercept and combat with a splash of bleed.

Eventually Adam was able to put some pressure on Dave with some bleeds for 4, but it was too little too late as Mark had Adam running low on pool.  As Mark laid on the second bleed of his turn, Adam was unable to block it and was about to be ousted when suddenly from across the table, Ben plays an Eagle's Sight to block the bleed!  However Mark still had one more minion and all it took was 1 more bleed and Adam was ousted.  Just what Mark needed to boost his own pool which was starting to run low due to a number of successful Conservative Agitations that hit him for 4 pool each time.  The table timed out before anything else could happen.

Game 2: Chris > Mark > Adam > Ben > Dave >
We took a few minutes at the end of the last game to refine our decks and weed out some cards.  I had a dream pick up this game.  Lots of votes to call, minion taps were coming to hand, even got to play the Giant's Blood that's in the deck.  Dave was walling up a bit and not putting much pressure on me. Mark was my prey again and he was quick to get some minions out but didn't seem to have much go forward.  After landing a number votes and having my prey on 4 pool ready for the oust, I tap one of my minions and announce I'm calling a Domain Challenge which will leave Mark with 1 pool as 3 of his 4 minions are tapped.  Perfect I thought, I'll get him with my next minion's vote for the oust, or so I thought.  I look a little further around and notice Adam, my grand-prey only has 2 pool... and 3 tapped minions.  So if my Domain Challenge passes, I'll end up giving my prey a VP and 6 pool before doing 3 damage to him.  Not the smartest thing to do, but it was the only vote card in my hand at the time, and it turned out to be what I needed to do, as the replacement card I picked up was an Conservative Agitation.

I didn't have any other choice but to vote against my own referendum.  With that out of the way, I still had 3 other minions to call some votes, which I did. The Conservative Agitation was enough to oust Mark(4 points to him and 1 to Adam) and leave Adam with 1 pool. After playing some action modifiers to boost the votes I picked up some more vote cards.  I then called an Ancilla Empowerment which ousted Adam and did 5 pool damage to my new prey, Ben. With my last action I called another Domain Challenge, and actually voted for it this time.  The details of exactly how I ousted Ben are hazy.  But either way I managed to do about 14 pool damage in 2 turns to him, 9 of which was while he was my great grand prey.  Vote decks can be very nasty.

After ousting Ben I had to try and take out Dave.  I got close with Dave only having 2 pool at one stage but he was able to bloat out to 6 or so on his next turn.  Time ran out before I was able to land the final killing blows.

Game 3: Dave > Adam > Mark > Ben > Chris >
The game timed out.  Dave was very close to being able to oust Adam but time wasn't on his side.  We were all tired and/or drunk by this stage and were glad to see the game over.

Things we learnt: Mundane played as an out-of-turn Master to cancel an action card requiring a discipline does not trigger the no repeat action clause because the card was cancelled and the action did not resolve.

Final results were:
Chris 0.5, 3.5, 0.5 = 4.5VP
Mark 1.5, 0, 0.5 = 2VP
Dave 0.5, 0.5, 0.5 = 1.5VP
Ben 0.5, 0, 0.5 = 1VP
Adam 0, 0, 0.5 = 0.5VP

My first VTES tournament win :D

New Australian VTES Blog

So we thought it was about time that there was a central blog for the Australian VTES scene, and now there is.  Behold all the marvel and glory that is The Crocodile Temple.

You'll find lots of useful information as we get around to populating it.  At the moment there's some discussions about deals and strategies.  There's a list of the current Australian playgroups and the beginner's pack I put together.

Townsville Qualifier Report

The carnage is over and the dust has settled from the Townsville Qualifier for the Continental Championships for 2013. We had a good turn out of 7 locals and 1 out-of-towner. Thanks to Steve for making the trip up from Brisbane for the event, always good to see people making an effort.

The qualifier was set for 2 rounds plus finals, all games with a 2 hour time limit. There was an interesting mix of decks with one real standout that was very strong, Mark’s weenie DBR.

Chris - Saulot Spirit Marionette bleed
Penne - Kiasyd Power Bleed
Steve - Group 4 / 5 Toreador Vote
Mark - Weenie .44 Dragon Breath Rounds with Grave Robbing
Dave - Group 3 / 4 Potence/Dom Bruide & Bleed
Buster - Assamite Bruise & Bleed with some Tariq diablerie
Chot (Alex) - Group 3 / 4 Pure Potence Combat
Adam - !Malkavian Kindred Spirits Bleed made with 2 Starter Decks

Round 1 Table 1: Steve > Mark > Chot > Penne

Written from Steve’s point of view
I was in first position and I had 3 copies of Rafael (11 cap) and 1 copy of Montecalme (10 cap). That sux – 4 rounds before I have someone out. Made a key error here – I was holding a Parity Shift and a Second Trad but forgot that Rafael couldn’t play them. I got Rafael out first :( That’s all I got out.

I think Mark may have rushed backwards once but I had a majesty. He was embroiled in a war with Chot. Mark’s deck seemed to consists entirely of Bum’s Rush, Concealed Weapon, Sat Night Spc and DB Rounds, plus a few masters. No bleed, no additional maneuvers. Chot was using Slam and Immortal Grapple. So sometimes he could win and smash one of Mark’s down, and sometimes he went to torpor. Sometimes they both went down. This left Penny to come forwards bleeding. I clung on as best I could, bloating with Villein and Voter Cap, but couldn’t apply much forward pressure. Eventually Chot was ousted, and I fell soon after – mainly because Mark rushed my vamp and put my in torpor as I was flicking big bleeds to him. I thought Penny was set up and ready to win, but it looks like Mark had heaps of rushes left and was soon torporing and diablerizing all her vamps.

End result: Mark 3VP & GW, Penne 1VP, Steve 0VP, Chot 0VP

Round 1 Table 2: Adam > Chris > Buster > Dave

Written from Chris' point of view
The table started off with everyone bringing out a small to mid-cap vampire and then building up. Adam started bleeding into me as soon as he could, landing some bleeds to for 2 and 4 while bloating thanks to Kindred Spirits. A couple of bleeds were flicked to Buster, but none of any significance. I was slow to start as having a bleed deck as a Predator meant I had to get someone out to be able to block or flick. This slowed down influencing out my star vampire, Saulot, an 11 cap. Meanwhile, Buster had tried to bleed his prey, Dave, and they ended up in combat, which turned out to be a bad thing for Dave even though his deck was set up to bruise, but just not as hard as Buster’s was. Aggravated hand damage from Bajazet al-Nasir and a combat combo of Selective Silence and Taste of Death meant Buster torpored Dave’s minion. To follow that up, Buster decided to diablerize him, much to Dave’s disgust. This prompted successive back rushed by Dave that also ended badly, with another one of Dave’s minions being eaten on Buster’s next turn as I wasn’t in a position to cross-table rescue as Saulot had only just come out. The damage had already been done though. Dave was low on minions (1 I believe), Adam had 3 or 4 minions out that were happily bleeding me. In the end, Adam killed me and Dave died to Buster, however Buster couldn’t hold off the 4-5 minions Adam had as they stealthed past the small amount of intercept Buster could manage.

End result: Adam 3VP & GW, Buster 1VP, Dave 0VP, Chris 0VP

Round 2 Table 1: Buster > Steve > Dave > Mark

Written from Steve’s point of view
Although Mark was my cross table ally, he was clearly the table threat. Buster’s deck seemed to like using Bajazet al-Nasir (agg hand damage), playing Tajdid and diablerizing. It had a range of Assamite and Quietus cards, quite toolboxy. It also featured Tariq. Why not just 5 Tariqs? I don’t know.

Buster got screwed early in this game. He brought out Bajazet, was promptly rushed and then graverobbed. Nasty. What was weird was that it took Mark most of the game to then oust Buster, who didn’t bring anyone out until near the end (and he only got Julius then anyway). I started cross table shenanigans against Mark and had about 3 of my votes DT’d, including a very important My Kin Against The World. I had little pressure, but was playing it carefully as my prey had dominate – he could wake and flick. I think he could rush too, so I was careful not to arouse too much attention. I did entrancement steal Jake Washington from my cross table enemy, and then use it a few turns later when one of my minions was shot at with a blurred 44 magnum.

Eventually a key turn came around. I had 3 minions out and was ready to move forward, but was so excited I made a newbie mistake. I started with a Parity Shift as my prey was on 4 pool… and then Mark pointed out that I had more pool than everyone else… D’oh! Action successful, vote fizzled, perfectionist blood gained. Next vote, Reins of Power. So I had an 11 cap, my prey had an 8, Mark’s biggest was a 4 cap and my predator only had Julius. So I explained it all, no one had a DT or any way to stop it. I was even fair enough to point out that my prey (who was dying regardless) didn’t have to pick anyone if he wanted to spite me. He thought about it and then asked what was the etiquette here. I said that if he felt like I had been unfair or unnecessarily mean to him, he could pick no one out of spite. If he felt like Mark had been back rushing him too much, he might choose the 8 cap. Or his 5 cap and give Mark 1 pool. Dave said that he thought I had been totally fair, but after some more deliberation, finally decided to choose no one because he “wanted to see a tough fight between Mark and me”. :(

On the plus side, I earnt 13 pool out of that vote (+5 because my predator only had a 1 cap, +2 from Voter Cap and +6 from ousting my prey). That might be my personal record for most pool gained from a single action!

I started bringing out Montecalme. I had been lucky this game and gotten all 4 of my vamps after just purchasing 1 from the crypt.

Mark then immediately took out Buster and started coming forwards. I held him off a bit, then on my turn got out Aranthebes. I thought that would totally screw him but then realised he had graverobbed Bajaret so he had an 8 cap.

Next turn was tough – Mark torpored my 3 minions and diablerized 2 of them. I was out of Majesty just then. But I had been carefully watching his library. He was now out of library and down to 4 cards in hand. I brought out Montecalme. He had about 8 minions, but with no bleed boost, I just had to survive Bajaret. Bajaret came for the Aranthebes and I carefully counted his ash heap cards – 12 concealeds, 10 dB rounds, 12 guns in discard and in play. I thought carefully and figured he was out of DB rounds and guns. He would need all 3 cards to put me in torpor. Bajaret was on 1 blood so I confidently blocked and then … oh crap, immediately realised Bajaret can burn a blood for agg hand damage! Second D’oh! of the round. We both go to torpor. He ate me and then it was my turn. I started bringing out Epikasta again – I had a lot of pool.

Then we had an interesting turn that had to be rewound. Mark used the blood doll on Bajaret in torpor to put a blood on, then rescue him and he could go and get rid of Aranthebes. Time was ticking down. It came to my turn and I realised the mistake – as the blood doll had belonged to Buster, it left when Buster was ousted. There was no blood doll to lose, Aranthebes was still in play, and I had not suffered 6 pool of damage in bleeds. We paused the clock, rewound and fixed it all, then started up again. 3 minutes left. I got my minion out and was able to block and out maneuver Bajaret or majesty, thus staying alive. His weenies could do nothing. I could occasionally call a vote but the edge stayed with Mark, so it wasn’t going anywhere fast. I kept the pace up so that I couldn’t be accused of stalling but eventually it timed out.

End result: Mark 1.5VP, Steve 1.5VP, Buster 0VP, Dave 0VP

Round 2 Table 2: Penne > Chris > Chot > Adam

Written from Chris' point of view
I was always going to die in this game as my predator was the Kiasyd deck I’d built for the Melbourne Nationals and my grand-predator (cross-table) was the !Malkavian Kindred Spirits deck. The Kiasyd deck has more bleed power but doesn’t bloat like the !Malk deck, so I couldn’t count on my prey making a dent in the !Malk deck fast enough to put pressure on the Kiasyd. I’d just have to find a way to deal with it. Luckily I had a much better starting position this time around and was able to influence Saulot out first, quickly followed by a weenie Auspex minion. However in the process I did take a bleed for 6 (Govern + Conditioning, ouch!) and one or two smaller bleeds for 2 or 3, so the overall result was me having minions and about 9 pool. My prey, Chot, was playing a pure potence combat deck and having some success presence bleeding Adam for 3. Penne was tearing through me till I managed to convince her to leave me alive so I could try and do some damage to my prey and in turn, softening him up for when I’m ousted. It worked and she left me with 1 pool. I managed to bloat a little and ended up with 6 pool at the end of the turn, but it wouldn’t be enough. In my turn I did manage to hit Chot with a bleed for 2 from one of Adam’s minions via a Spirit Marionette, untap then bleed him for 3 with Saulot. He still had about 6 pool left, there was no way I could oust him. What did end up happening though is that Chot managed to torpor some of Adam’s vamps and slow down his bleeds on Penne which was putting her in prime position for the sweep. On Penne’s next turn she ousted me with another Govern + Conditioning and a bunch of stealth. However on Chot’s next turn, he ousted Adam. Time was running out and it got down to the point where Penne could oust Chot in her turn but didn’t declare the last bleed from her 3 minions before the timer ran out. So close.

End result: Penne 1.5VP, Chot 1.5VP, Chris 0VP, Adam 0VP

Finals: Mark > Penne > Adam > Chot > Steve

Written from Steve’s point of view
The random roll made me first which always sux with this deck. I thought out my strategy and realised it was pointless to bring anyone out as I was sandwiched between 2 rush decks, plus there was absolutely no chance with Mark as my prey. So I had to convince everyone else that Mark was the table threat (which he was) and get them to all work together to oust him. So I brought out no one.

Penne (deck played by Chris as a proxy) brought out 1 minion and was promptly smashed into torpor and graverobbed. Chris also made the same assumption and didn’t bring anyone out. Although he was suffering 5 pool damage a turn from bleeds, he shuffled pool around and aimed to get out his 5 cap if and when a chance came up. Chot and Mark had a combat, but otherwise things were looking ripe for me to do what I needed to. I had Epikasta and Montecalme only in my uncontrolled region and had put 7 and 9 pool on them respectively. At the start of Chris’s next turn I asked everyone if they all agreed Mark was the table threat. Yes they did. So, we’re all in agreement that we have to work together to oust him? Yes. OK, Chris got ready to bring someone out, Adam started Kindred Spirits bleeding Mark, Chot did at least one rush and I brought my 2 dudes out. Mark was a good sport about it all. He laughed and I think he agreed/accepted that he was the table threat. He didn’t try to deny it. Without a doubt, a top sport. He then proceeded to torpor almost everyone on the table. I had been saving up majesty’s and survived as best I could, but both of my minions eventually went to torpor and he diablerized Montecalme. I was surprised that he didn’t diablerize Epikasta (which he later said was a mistake).

The turns moved around and when it came to Adam, he started rescuing minions. I asked him to rescue my vamp and that I would rescue his other vamp as soon as I had a spare chance – this would give us, the anti-Mark team, more ready minions to continue the holy crusade.

Chot did of his own rescuing but did bleed me for 3… which I promptly flicked into my prey who was sitting on 8 pool… now 5, and I was holding a social charm and aire of elation… take a deep breath Steve, don’t rush this, make sure you do everything right… yes, I ousted my prey! Mission accomplished, and now I had a chance, albeit still a small one, at winning. Even Adam was happy that I did it when I had the chance instead of rescuing his minion.

However my fortune soon turned. Chot famed me, and started rushing me. At least vs Mark I could Majesty – Chot’s immortal grapples trumped me. Down I went. I got out of torpor but was ousted on the following turn by the same method.

Last part written by Chris
Taking on Mark had cost Chot some minions which allowed Adam to bleed him out as his defenses were low. When the table timed out at the 2 hour mark, Adam and Penne were still in the game. This meant Adam finished the final with 1.5VP (half a VP comes from still being in the game when time runs out), winning the Townsville Qualifier!

Final result: Adam 1.5VP, Steve 1VP, Chot 1VP, Penne 0.5VP, Mark 0VP

Latest Flier

Went for a trip to Realms of Magic and Miniatures during the week and dropped off the latest flier.  Had a good chat with Michael about running a demo which he himself seemed interested in, which is excellent.  There were quite a few MTG players there too, so maybe one or two of them will want to check VTES out.

Expensive Pleasure

So this is what a Bloodlines Booster Box looks like once it's been opened. Some decent cards in there too.  Pretty happy with it's contents but probably not worth what I paid for it.

Consecutive games madness

I typed this up months ago but forgot to post it. So here it is.
Exactly one week after the last games we were back into it again. Really great to see and gives me a lot of hope for running another tournament this year, maybe even two, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
At the end of the last games two of the core players from the playgroup decided that we should be playing some more fun decks and less tournament tuned decks to give some of the new (and old) players a bit of a break and a look at some different strategies. We had a week. I thought that was plenty of time to refine a deck and put together a new one I had been wanting to try for some time. Yet 1pm rolled around and I was desperately trying to throw together my new deck. Anyway, on to the games.

Game 1: Daughters Shattering Crescendo & Vote with Scout, !Nos Night Moves/Spying Mission bleed, Old school Malk bleed (Barbed Wire deck) , Big Cap vote/bounce and Nosferatu Vote (Barbed Wire deck)
Winner: Daughters

Game 2: The unnamed Shattering the Gate, !Nos Night Moves/Spying Mission bleed, Weenie Computer Hacking with friends, Tremere Bruise & Bleed and Nosferatu Vote (Barbed Wire deck)
Winner: Night Moves bleed

First Games for 2013

Yesterday saw our first meet up of the year for a 4 player game. I had put together two fun decks to try out, a Daughters Shattering Crescendo with an Ashur/Liquidation core and a Harbingers of Skulls intercept/mill deck.

The first game had my Daughters, G1/2 mid-cap Stealth/Bleed, Ventrue Anti tribune vote and a G1/2 POT combat with Princes (in that seating order). The SB deck tore through the !Vent vote deck in about 5/6 turns. The Daughters deck took a while to get going as a poor initial draw meant it was unable to put enough pressure on the SB to slow down it's big bleeds. The combat deck also didn't draw well in the early game and had to resort to small bleeds to try and entice a block, which didn't happen. However by mid-game both the Daughters and combat decks were drawing properly into their decks. The SB vamps were taking some damage from the Shattering Crescendos and ending up in torpor. Meanwhile, the Daughters were being put into torpor themselves. A Fame was put on one of the SB vamps but ended up being contested soon after before it could be used. The game finished up with the combat deck putting all of the Daughters and SB vamps into torpor and finishing with some bleeds.

The second game saw my Harbingers intercept/mill deck, the same !Vent deck from the first game and a Ventrue breed and vote deck packing quite a few parity shifts.  The game was over rather quickly as the Ventrue breed and vote deck had a Zillah's Valley in the very first hand which locked down the vote majority rather quickly. The Harbingers didn't start fast enough and got KRC'ed and Parity Shifted into oblivion.  The !Ventrue deck tried its best but could only get one or two votes through, which wasn't enough to make a difference.  Needless to say the Ventrue breed and vote swept the table.

We decided that it would be a good idea to not try and play as if every game was a tournament and to build some crazy fun decks that do things people don't usually see.  I look forward to these games in the near future.
